Charlie out.. roller derby in!
hello home slice_

July is large, we tried to zip it, squeeze it and squish it into one Home Slice… but, its largeness was so paunchy that we had to split it in two. So here it is, July the sequel, packed with more Adelaide goodness.

What makes good entertainment has evolved over the decades. Once upon a time people actually laughed their arses off at the likes of Charlie Chaplin and his slap stick approach... Watching that guff now-days fails to even raise a slight chuckle. But, oh no, slap-stick isn't dead, all you need to do is youTube "painful mishaps" and you have hours of endless colourful bone-crunching carnage. Cringe worthy clips of goons biting the dust in all kinds of different fantastic ways. Is this bad that we find humour in other peoples misfortunes? Well, while you ponder your own moral position, we at Home Slice have found what we deem to be some of the best possible entertainment going round. Roller Derby! Oh yes, i'm talking; roller girl carnage, beer, live music, short shorts, did I say beer already?

Ink Rain - Overflow friday's party

john willanski has been finding shades of grey in a flood of black and white, and this month he exhibits them in 'overflow'. he also likes cupcakes. so what better excuse for a party!

john's artwork style, coined ink rain, is an intricate maze of detail bordering on obsessive compulsive. he draws like he does to rest his mind, we think he's slightly nuts.. but we love his work.

so come and celebrate his SALA exhibition art with a friday's party and sample his very special ink rain cupcakes!

busting to hear them? well don't worry, home slice will hook you up.. here's a neat little cover they did of 'the sonics' track, The Witch..

Sidestep Home Slice mix
(r&b / house / electro)

simon johnson has music running through his veins. i've liked his style from the first time i heard him play at the rooftop party last year. he's got an electro garage feel that fills dance floors the way they used to in the early 90s.

we've missed him since he moved to sydney.. and although we haven't been able to lure him back just yet, he has prepared this lovely home slice mix just for you!

so click the link below, download it, double click on it to unzip it, and plug it into a stereo.. loud!

oh, and don't forget to leave feedback for him on his facebook account.. he'd love to hear from you.

Adelaide Roller Derby II - The Mile Die Club vs The Salty Dolls

In February our little Home Slice minds were blown by the bone crushing full contact roller skate battle that was the first Skate of Origin bout. Now 5 months later, there are two Adelaide teams and they're hungry for blood and state supremacy.

There's something a little special about tattoo clad, long legged, fit, angry girls on skates and when those very same girls get physical around a flat track, not scared to shed blood and hit the deck hard, it equates to something better than... every other form of entertainment ever. A big call I know.

When: Saturday 26th July, doors & bar open at 6pm for a 7pm start. (get there early so you can stand up against the fence.. trust me, you'll be thanking me)
Where: Jubilee Pavilion at the Adelaide Showgrounds
Cost: $10, tickets through www.oztix.com.au
