Pultney street, near north terrace, just past target, look up!
hello home slice_

Delight at the end of the tunnel. Its a nice feeling to have after trudging through the endless black hole that has been Adelaide street art for the last couple of years.

Sure, the few seasoned regulars have been punching out their amazing work behind closed doors, but the streets and walls of our lovely city have been a wash of shades of grey.

Enter a new era. It doesn't seem to be any one person, but more a bubbling seething undergrowth that has reached critical mass. Fuck yeeeaahh!

Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Pitchfork think their simple big beat screechy sounds lack creativity, and our own music editors Nick & Dan will probably cringe at me including them in this month's Home Slice, but fuck it.. DIOYY's electro punk pop makes me jump around and dance like inch ants are attacking my nudie bits. And that makes me happy.

So judge me all you like, but I think tracks like Attack Of The 60 Ft Lesbian Octopus, and Epic Last Song are going to be a little big awesome live. Who's with me?

When: September 8th, 7.30pm
Where: The Gov

How much: $50

Right Hand Distribution

Ebenezer place has always been home to some good looking little boutique shops and niche stores. They pop-up, catch our eye, and unfortunately in some cases get washed away with the winter rain.

But there's one new store that should be around longer than your hangover, Right Hand Distribution. They're 3 parts denim, 3 parts street fashion gods and 4 all important parts smarts. Oh and they do shoes, scarfs, shirts & Field Notes sketchbooks. Rock!

They're also the only store I've ever heard to do instant as-you-watch leg fixes on your favourite nudie, naked & famous, 3sixteen, full count or cheap monday denim. Get on it.

Tree House.. Yes?

What's that you say? You didn't make it to the Tree House book launch with Mrs.S's amazing sushi? Shame.

Well, the sushi may be long gone, but at least now you can buy all the copies of Never Grow Up you like from the comfort of your own home.

That's right, the Tree House has an on-line shop, and for a limited time they're also selling the radness for your body in t-shirt form.

Yes? Yes.

The Mercury brings us the goods once again, this time rekindling some of the high points of Australian new wave cinema in the form of Dogs In Space, Monkey Grip, and Starstruck.

Lo-fi revo(pol)lution?
werds by Nick.

So No Age brought shades of fuzzy art punk to the masses, we dropped a little taste of Woods' hazy folk charm and Lindsey Low Hand’s ferocious sounds a couple months past, and San Diego kid Wavves managed to become his very own figure of celebrity meltdown. Amongst other things these varying reference points pose the question, is the lo-fi sub-genre defying its very own nature and inadvertently losing its quaint charm?

Right now more than ever there’s nothing cooler than sitting in your bedroom, whipping out your busted 8-trak and unleashing your emotions in a cacophonous cavalcade of fuzz. It’s almost definitely reached insane proportions via an obvious force of certain media outlets and maybe a desire to strip away from the overproduced electro-trash breaching the airwaves. But whatever the cause, it’s a time to celebrate when so many lo-fi prodigals are producing such infectious tunes.

The Bitters rusty anthem Warrior is a perfect starting placing, loud, proud and bristling with energy. In a similar vein everything about The Fresh & Onlys says that they’re going to be huge, their sloppy 60s inspired poppy rock is ripe for the taking. Both Peacock & Wing and I Saw You Seeing Me are immensely promising and ridiculously addictive. While The Hospitals’ Getting Out Of Bed is a vicious marvel.

And more than anything these songs reiterate that questioning genres is pretentious and pointless, just enjoy.

The Hospitals

The Rundle Project

Admittedly we haven't been the biggest fans of the Adelaide City Council in recent times. Lets face it, they've been pretty shit when it comes to youth culture in the city.

But we think they might finally be on the right track with their latest proposal, The Rundle Project.

The project is focused on changes to Rundle Street, with some pretty decent ideas.. Free public stages for live performances of art and music, year round busking and street food stalls, urban furniture designed by students, allocated street art laneways, living green walls, urban gardens and projections on shop fronts at night!

Sounds amazing doesn't it. Have a read through the proposal for yourself and then maybe send through some positive feedback to the council to inspire them to follow through. Fingers crossed they don't fuck it up as they implement it.

On Dit.. new is the new new

Remember when your uni magazine was little pages of awesome that drew you in and made you say fuck yeah as you read?

Pages filled with rainbow unicorn pp00rrnn, opinionated real stories of student life, fiery uni politics and a dash of Israeli apartheid.

Okay okay, so the unicorns are just in my head, but the rest is what you'll find in the brand new OnDit mockup.

They're smart, sassy & fresh. Fingers crossed they win the upcoming election.
